National Apprenticeship Week
It’s National Apprenticeship Week and on Monday 14 March we received a visit from City College Peterborough who we have worked with on our apprenticeship schemes.
Representatives from City College came bearing gifts of cupcakes as a thank you for supporting them in their college programme.
At XL Displays we are keen to support young people starting out in their careers and have employed three apprentices over the last two years. Anyone on an apprenticeship combines working with studying for a work-based qualification.
Two of our apprentices have now finished their apprenticeships and are now fully fledged members of the team. They are continuing to develop and are now studying further qualifications in accountancy and marketing respectively.
Our current apprentice, Lucy, is working in our Customer Service team and has been awarded the College’s ‘Apprentice of the Term’. This award goes to an apprentice who goes the extra mile in their role and really showcases what they can achieve. Lucy came out on top from record number of very strong nominations and we are really proud of what she has achieved.
National Apprenticeship Week is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
As a small business XL Displays has found great benefits in taking on apprentices. Joanne Bass, Director of XL Displays, said: “All of the apprentices we have employed have been a great success and have all contributed to the growth and development of XL Displays. As an employer I feel that it is so important to support people in their career and personal development and running apprenticeship schemes is just one way that we do that.”
Joanne continued, “We have found it really easy to work with City College and are really proud of how our apprentices have developed and what they have achieved.”
For apprentices themselves it’s a great way to enter a workplace in a field they are interested in without any experience or relevant qualifications. They can ‘earn while they learn’ and receive a qualification with the hope of being offered employment and further training at the end of their training period.
