There is no straight forward answer to this question as it relies on the guidelines set out by your council which can differ from one to another.

There are many factors to consider with pavement signs with the main one being the location in which you intend to place it. Some councils may require you to have a license to display a pavement sign outside your business. You can apply for these online, but it is best practice to check with your council.

Most councils are happy for pavement signs to be displayed out the front of business if you follow some simple steps to make sure they are safe.

• Display a sensible size – don’t overdo it for the space that you have available
• Keep the display in good, clean condition
• Keep the display maintained to avoid sharp edges & risk to health and safety
• Do not cause obstructions with the pavement sign. You must leave enough space for foot traffic, wheelchairs, and pushchairs to get by safely.
• Remove the pavement sign in high winds to avoid damage or injury
• Ensure it is stable on a level surface, so it does not fall over causing injury

Yes, for the most part pavement signs come pre-assembled and ready to use upon delivery. Sign boards that require minimal self-assembly are supplied with the tools require to complete the install and clear instructions.

A Sandwich Board sign is one of the most popular types of pavement signs and are also known as A Boards and A-Frame signs. These signs are weatherproof so can be used outside shops and businesses to attract passing trade.  Signs can also be used indoors, generally to designate areas, advertising signs for promotions or as directional signage.

Sandwich boards have double-sided poster display holders so you can display marketing messages on both sides. The posters will be in A1, A2, A0 sizes but larger B sizes are available, up to 60" x 40". Posters are retained by a snap frame holder system with a clear acetate cover for protection of the posters. Chalkboard writing surface also available.

Sandwich A Boards are manufactured from either aluminium or wood and sometimes steel. Colour is generally silver or black but are available in multiple colours.

Sandwich Boards are constructed from two boards hinged together at the top that can fold flat. When unfolded the top remains hinged and the base feet spread out in a triangular shape to aid stability. From the sided, sandwich boards look like a large 'A' shape, hence the names A-Boards and A-Frames.

Trade pavement signs are outdoor board displays used to promote businesses, products and services. Trade pavement signs can be used in a variety of different locations, whether front-of-house, in entrances and exits, car parks, forecourts, roadsides, pavements and pathways. Trade display boards can also be used indoors to direct customer footfall and for information purposes.

There are many different styles of trade pavement signs including Water-Based signs, A-Frame signs, Swing Signs, A-Board Signs, Flexi Signs, Forecourt Signs, and Wooden A Board Signs. Many trade pavement signs have poster pockets, to enable you to frequently change your promotions and advertising displays. Others have graphic printed panels for a more permanent display.

A1 Size pavement signs feature an A1 paper/poster displayed within the frame. The dimensions of the sign itself will vary depending on its style and features, but the visible graphic area for an A1 poster display will always be 820mm (h) x 574mm (w).

A0 Size pavement sign refers to the paper/poster size displayed within the frame. The exterior dimensions of an A0 pavement sign will vary depending on the style of the display board, but the visible graphic area for an A0 poster display will always be 1168mm (h) x 820mm (w).

Whilst pavement signs are designed specifically for outdoor use using weatherproof materials, the posters themselves are not fully weatherproof. Each pavement sign is supplied with weather-resistant poster covers that protect the printed display from rain and sun, however we recommend storing your promotional sign inside if the adverse weather to ensure your sign is not damaged.

Due to the design of the A-Frame signs they do not require any additional support for stability when is use. Signboards with a hollow base should be filled with either water or sand. This provides enough weight and support to hold down the pavement sign securely when is use.

We offer optional printed posters with all our pavement signboards so that you receive a display that is ready for immediate use. Alternatively, you can purchase a plain pavement sign and supply your own printed posters if required.

Our posters are digitally printed in-house using environmentally friendly, water-based ink on 180-micron-thick vinyl. Each poster print is laminated for extra durability and to protect from tears, scratches, and creases. 

The lamination provides additional protection making them more suitable for outdoor use, however, they are not fully waterproof.

We recommend storing all pavement signs inside your business premises, or in a secure location overnight to avoid damage or theft.

Most A-Board signs fold flat for easy storage and are easy to pick up and take inside. The water-filled advertising signs usually have a wheeled base making moving them easy and hassle-free, they can simply be wheeled inside at the end of each day.

We recommend taking all pavement signs inside or under shelter when the weather turns, and the wind becomes strong.

Our most sturdy and wind-resistant pavement signs are the sand and water-filled signs as well as the flexible signs with a solid rubber base.

However, if gale-force winds are forecasted, we recommend storing every poster display sign inside.

Poster changes are incredibly simple and completely hassle-free on most pavement signs. Most feature a simple snap open poster board that allows you to change your promotions in less than a minute.

Some of our pavement signs feature poster pockets that enable you to slide your poster inside the pocket and is secured magnetically along the top.

Some advertising boards such as the flex and swing signs do require self-adhesive vinyl print which is a more permanent display. This can not be changed as easily and does require a new aluminium panel with print direct from your supplier.
